Cam & Crank Error

Scotty,

I watch your videos and get a lot a good info from them. I was a mechanic back in the 80's. I have an electronic issue.

I have a 2004 Volvo XC90. It has two errors that keep popping up. A Cam sensor error and a Crank sensor error. I have replaced both of them. As soon as you start the car, the check engine goes out. In about 15-20 seconds later the check engine light comes on. I check the codes and it's the same two errors. So I clear them and I can drive it all day and they don't error. but after I shut the engine off, it starts over again. I can tell the engine runs better when the errors are cleared but it would still run all day if I didn't clear the errors.

So why does it only error after starting and not any other time? Any ideas where I can look or why this is happening? I have check the few connections I see. I think the timing belt was replaced by the way it looks.

Maybe somethings wrong with your ECM. Have you taken a look at that? Sometimes if the timing is off it can give you that reading

Just a few things it can be

1. Ecm/pcm bad. Usually other things will act up.

2. faulty harness or wiring

3. faulty sensor causing both codes. Don't use cheap aftermarket sensors. Use OEM or OEM equivalent. Example Bosch makes my Mercedes mass airflow . Both are available just the Bosch name is 75% cheaper then Mercedes brand even tho they are the same.

4. Another sensor is throwing the code ntake air temp, engine coolant temp sensor to name a few.
