I have a 2009 Toyota Camry hybrid with over 200,000 miles. The check VSC system light is on. I took it to the local mechanic and he suggested I took it to the dealer to run a diagnostic. Dealer said I need a new brake accumulator, and said I need a new radiator. Additionally, dealer said I am going to need to replace the control arm and swaybar. Repairs for everything at the dealer total $8000. I’m thinking this car has about given up the ghost. Is the brake accumulator something that a local non-dealer mechanic can fix or does it need to go to the dealer to have access to the electronics and hybrid integration etc.? if I do bring it to a local mechanic, Am I able to do the control arm and sway bar later? Thanks for any insight.
Mike
Take it to a mechanic who specializes in hybrids and have him look at it. A control arm and sway bar are both DIY friendly, as long as you have basic hand tools and a torque wrench. Get an alignment afterwards.
