Camry or Lancer

My friend wants a reliable sedan.

He is currently looking into two options:

2014 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 done about 150k miles

2009 Camry 2.4 XLE done about 155k miles.

Both in good conditions and almost similar price while the lancer is a bit cheaper (camry is about 5k while lancer is 4.5k). Which is the better and more reliable option long term?

Thanks

2009 Camry 2.4

These Toyota 1AZ engines are known for burning oil, it can be a huge issue.

2014 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 done about 150k miles

A 148 horsepower engine mated to a CVT at 150k miles - that's a big no!

Neither.

what other options does he have?

Can he fit a Mazda3 with reasonable millage into that budget?

His other options are Corolla 2008-2011 and 2007-2011 Civic

2010-2011 Corolla is probably Toyota’s most reliable car ever - he should go for it.

Agree completely with @Dan Those 1.8L Corollas are known to run hundreds of thousands of miles.

Yep the late model year 2010-2011 1.8L Corollas can last for ages!
The early 2008-2009 can burn oil.
