Can switching synthetic back to traditional oil damage anything??

Just took my car (2006 Toyota Matrix, standard, 1zz-fe) in for its usual oil change and while in the bay they asked me regular or synthetic and I said synthetic. Guy goes and clicks the computer "uhhhhhhhh it says here we gave you regular oil last time and that's what we're draining"

Previous time I took it in for a change there was a line so I left my keys and wandered off, and they used regular without calling me. My car has been on synthetic for about 5 years/75,000km and just did about 8500km on regular. Should I be worried? I told them to fill it back up with synthetic and they apologized for the inconvenience, only charged me the regular oil price, didn't charge me for the filter and gave me new wipers as a "sorry" gift.

I think it's time for me to start doing my own oil changes with a friend/family lol

I think that's a little over 5000 miles in real measurement. Running conventional oil for that period of time should not have any negative effects on engines that don't have inherent sludging problems or turbocharging. (Turbos develop such high temperatures that synthetic is pretty much mandatory.)

Yup about 5000mi, the engine was designed/came with conventional oil, good old reliable 1zz-fe, I had switched to synthetic for engine protection and better gas millage.

don't go to those quick lube chains. They'll destroy your car one day.
