Damian again, 1993 Toyota Camry V6, 288700+ Miles. Automatic transmission. I came to your site to ask about my alignment issues, Figured I'd ask about this one aswell. When I first start up my car and start going, I can press the gas as much as I want but it will not go past about 20mph for the first five minutes, then it will drive fine for the rest of the days. Sometimes it seems like it will last longer then 5 minutes, othertimes It will last less then 5, but for the majority it's about 5 minutes. Also I cannot for whatever reason go past 70 on the freeway, I can press the gas and it will shift up, and you can hear the engine roar but it's not going any faster.
Thanks Again,
Damian.
Well since nobody else is responding, can you clarify a few things?
You say when you can't go past 70 mph, you step on the gas pedal and you can "hear the engine roar" but it won't go any faster.
Is the same thing happening "during the first 5 minutes" when it won't go over 20 mph?
In other words when you look at the tachometer
are the engine RPMs increasing but the car isn't moving any faster than 20 mph?
If it revs but doesn't move accordingly check your transmission fluid level.
Transmission fluid expands when it's warm and contracts when it's cold.
Check the transmission fluid with engine running.
I had a similar issue, but as the car was running, it wouldn’t go past 40mph. Turned out to be the cats. They were clogged. Not sure if same cause though.
Yes the rpms rev higher but the car wont go any faster.
Sounds like a transmission issue. Definitely check the fluid level, then go from there {black}
I'll check the transmission fluid and get back to you guys tomorrow. Thank you so much for the help.
