Quick and dumb question
Why cars now a days look aggressive or like they wanna punch some one on the face example toyota camry.
Back in the old days they look simpler and had boooring personality and now they wanna look aggressive even though they are not
Another example muscle cars used to have personality and now they look more like sports car and less muscle what is the reason ?
Is it marketing strategy
Sometimes it seems designers have fallen on their heads. Probably there is also psychology included.
The new BMW grille stares nervously at this thread..
Yes, it is the marketing situation. Similar goes with the size of the car. They are becoming bigger and bigger regardless of the type.
I think one reason cars look more aggressive or have crazy shapes is because we have the manufacturer technology to produce such craziness en masse. Before, such shapes were only found on concepts because they were so hard to make.
But just because you can make aggressive shapes, doesn’t mean you should.
I hate the direction the Civic, Accord, Prius, Corolla, and Camry have gone. The designs got to crazy for my taste.
It's more or less a generational thing IMO like how back when the space race was happening a lot of cars had the gigantic bat wings to appear like spaceships or when early 2000's all of a sudden every car wanted to look like a blob cause it was more aerodynamic than yesteryears. Right now everyone wants a racecar. Who knows what the future be. I hope it ain't that godawful chrome look that a lot of concepts seem to deep "futuristic"
Bruce you been playing cyberpunk way to much
I personally think that Hondas and Toyotas from the 90’s and early 2000’s were a bit ugly and sloooowww. The newer ones are much better looking in my opinion but Honda did kind of ruin the Accord for the 2018+ model years since I really liked the 2013-2017 models. The 2018+ Camrys are probably the best looking while the previous years were either boring or just plain ugly. Hyundai’s new Sonata is ugly tho and it looks like a catfish. I guess Honda and Toyota designers are trying to step away from the “grandma car” stereotype and attract more young customers.
Just marketing.
Perfect example is pickup trucks. Everyone down here in Texas that drives one is always out on intimidation patrol, tailgating, cutting people off....you know, 5'4" guy in a Sierra with a 12" lift. Napolean complex is rampant here.
So, truck front ends get super aggressive styling to assist those who want to believe they are intimidating to others. Even if the exact opposite is true.
I find most styling to be bland honestly. My favorite styling currently is the Challenger as I love the old school look. The Camry I believe looks very sleek, but not really aggressive. The Civic Type R is over styled completely. I like my 2020 Accord styling. Good lines and a sleek front end that doesn't look aggressive but a bit upscale....like it could be an Acura.
If you look at most vehicles, from the side, take off the front bumper & headlight and rear bumper & taillights they all pretty much have the same generic shape and sometimes boring look about them. So the front and back sets them apart visually from the exterior. We're visual creatures, we buy with our eyes for the most part. So the designers have to try and figure out what trending or going to be trending to entice people to spend their $$.
They want to look as futuristic as possible and if one automaker goes to it, every automaker just copies them. Also, carmakers have already improved cars so much, that they just add lines and stuff these days to make it seem new and something that no one has ever seen. They just try to add as much tech as possible and want more people to buy these cars. Huh. I guess it is marketing.
