Which brand new vehicle should I buy?

Scotty,

I'm looking to buy a "new" car and was considering a reliable car or SUV with good gas mileage as I tend to keep my cars a long time.

I had the Toyota Corolla or RAV4 in mind as I hear that they are both reliable and get good gas mileage.  I was also thinking of a Honda crv.  Any recommendations and for used vehicles,  any year to avoid?  Also any other make vehicles you recommend?

Thanks

Get a brand new Honda Civic -

I remember seeing this. I just test drive a Toyota Carolla 2022 today. Not bad. I guess I'll try the new Civic and see how they compare.

I can tell you that no matter what you buy, you are going to be disappointed with new vehicles.

Can you elaborate?

If you need a compact suv, the RAV4 or CRV.

If you need a car, the Corolla or Civic.

All great all around vehicles for their class.

My personal preference for the car, is the 2022 Civic.  I love the new interior. And they are dinner to drive

My personal preference for the SUV, I wish I could get the CRV interior with the RAV4 feeling. RAV4 just seems more fun to drive. But I much prefer the Honda interior to the Toyota interior.

All four are known for their quality and longevity. So take your pick, and see which feels best to you!!!

You wanna keep a car a long time?

1st: Is to not buy a new car, no matter what it is, reason being is all cars now have become too complex for their own good, and are not made to be kept for long periods of time.

2nd: Is to make sure that you buy one with not too much wear and tear on the majority of vehicle, it will save you time and money in the long run.

3rd: Is to make sure there isn't too much technology crammed into it, so less things will break over time.

4th: Is to make sure there's aftermarket support for the car and there will be for years to come.

5th: Hope and pray that you don't get into a car accident.

(I'm sure I'm missing some other steps but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.)

Thanks, good to know.
My wife had a Honda CRV and I think we'd still be driving it today had she not wrecked it.

Even after repairs we found s that the vehicle would run out of oil for no apparent reason and we saw no leaks. Burning it somehow I guess. Eventually the timing chain went and so did the engine.

Stick with Toyota and Honda and you should be good for now. Don’t bother with hybrid models unless you drive a lot. Even if you drive a lot, gasoline only engines are still less headache.

My philosophy of buying cars is that if you take care of any car, it will last you a long time. Get whatever car fits you and baby it.

In general, the three pillars of reliability/longevity/durability (in my opinion) are: 1.) design/engineered in from the beginning (long before assembly); 2.) assembly; and 3.) owner maintenance. While it is true #3 can help the vehicle last longer but it does not make up for deficiencies in #1 and #2. For that reason, I would not get a GM or FCA product (using them as an example, but there’s many others as well).

I see what you're saying but sometimes you may get lucky (I baby all my cars and never had an issue since).

That’s probability and statistics for you.

I babied my 1996 Dodge Dakota. Bought it brand new, still have it today. My first car was a 1978 Toyota Carolla. Great gas mileage, too young to appreciate it though. Traded it in for a 1985Ford Tempo. What a mistake!
