Hello I’m having some electrical issues with my 2007 Honda accord V6 6mt with around 127,000 miles on it. This issue has been ongoing for a couple months now and is really bothering me because I can drive my car around all day and when I go to start it, it just wont crank. The dash lights will turn on but once I turn the key they go out. At first I thought it was a battery problem so I bought a brand new Optima red top battery knowing they are pretty strong batteries. It solved the problem for about a week or so until I get in about to go to work and then BAM my car won’t start. It sat around for a couple weeks or so while I bummed rides off my wife. After we both got tired of the quality time together I took it to the dealership via tow. They inspected the car and determined the clutch wasn’t engaging all the way and replaced the clutch box. I picked it up and drove it home. Feeling the smooth as butter shifts with that brand new optima battery under the hood and the recoil of that new clutch. I was feeling pretty confident… The next day I was running late to work. With a 15 minute drive ahead of me and 18 minutes to get in my car and go. I grabbed my keys and made a sprint for my car. Threw my bag in the passenger side and go turn the key and then *CLICK* dash lights go out again. So my wife had the pleasure of being my cab driver once again. After work I had my buddy jump my car with his truck. I immediately took it down to Advanced Auto to test everything out and everything tested amazing. So I suspected a parasitic drain. For the past week I have been disconnecting the negative terminal and worked great… for a day and lucky right when I get home I park my car and I go to restart it and then *CLICK*.

This is where I am currently with my problem sorry if I am being overly dramatic I just wanted to jot down my frustration. I’ve had this car for about a year now and its been out of commission half that time. I do suspect this aftermarket stereo I installed with a touch screen. Maybe it is sucking more power than the OEM alternator can generate. I have researched aftermarket alternators that can output more watts than OEM but would this fix my problem? What else can I do so I don’t end up jumping my car everyday? I just want my car to be reliable. Also I have ordered a multimeter so I will have accurate readings later on.

Well since it seems to start when you jump start it you obviously have some type of parasitic drain. See my video fixing battery drain in your car Scotty. Hopefully it's not an intermittent one that comes on and off for that you would have to pay a mechanic like me to use this digital oscilloscope hook it up overnight with a memory recorder that would record all the data and then see when it occurred and pinpoint the source. Now it can be such a pain in the butt some guys will actually put a switch on one of their battery terminals and then if the shut the car off for anyone at the time they just flip the switch off then it can't drain
