Cars having no temperature guage

Hey scotty what do you think that some new cars don't have a guage to check our engine coolant temperature. I think is a bad idea on why they are doing that.

Chances are they have some kind of warning pop up on the TV screen in the dashboard. Still a very bad idea.

The only cars I can think of with no temperature indicators at all were very early cars back in Model T days and the captive import Nash/AMC Metropolitan of the 1950s. Many cars over the years have only had warning lights instead of a gauge not only for temperature but for other functions such as oil pressure and charging system as well. (You can thank Hudson for that bright idea.)

It's obviously a bad idea, and Scotty has talked about it at length in his videos. Same thing with all the gauges and dipsticks. They're going away, and it's going to lead to more junked cars. They are replacing everything with idiot lights and touch screens, and most people have no idea what they mean.

@imperator I concur that this is a bad idea as the best case is a nuisance visit and $ to the OEM dealership or worst case, an overheated engine which can mean goodbye to the cylinder head(s). More marketing and $ is being spent on infotainment and cabin comfort, emissions, CAFE standards and selling bling. If one is a purist, you could install aftermarket gauges or even consider a dongle with a phone app. However, Scotty as well as a few other mechanics discourage the use of dongles in the OBD port for continuous monitoring of vehicle systems. On a comical note, even my service prone Dodge Grand Caravan has a coolant temperature gauge!
