Hello. I have a 2005 Nissan Murano V6 Engine, Automatic Transmission with 193,000 miles

The mobile mechanic wrote this recommendation but it is confusing and I don't trust it. Does this sound accurate? Thank you!

Found 5 trouble codes none related to the drivability issue concern Coolant system code p0117 p1217 for coolant temp out of range reading Both history and stored codes Upon driving the vehicle notice vehicle did not want to accelerate properly and was not responsive the throttle control Performed scanned and reading data and noticed MAS reading were not reading properly out of range Suggested replacement of Mas sensor and Recheck - Diagnostic Follow-up for “Check Engine Light is on Inspection”

Is your transmission slipping? Transmission slip occurs when you're trying to accelerate, but it really lags behind the motor.

Thank you for the reply @justin-shepherd. I'm a woman who doesn't know much about cars and I have to go to these mechanics alone so I'm not sure about transmission slipping. The mechanic and I took the car for a test drive and he didn't mention anything about the transmission slipping when the car couldn't accelerate. He said there is coolant in the car, no other leaks that he could see. I think I need to get a second opinion which I didn't want to do but something is telling me the mobile mechanic didn't have all the equipment or knowledge to test everything.

A trained and competent mechanic would be able to tell you what's wrong. Maybe you should consider a different mechanic. Did he even have a scan tool with him or her?

@justin-shepherd Yes, he did. He had 2 of them. One that was manual and one that used blue tooth.

Live data would have told you what is wrong, or at least clue you in as to the nature of your problem without taking anything apart. If the engine is revving really high, it's in Drive, and it doesn't want to move right away, your transmission is slipping.

Hmmm. I once overworked my Prius up a long hill on a hot day, and I couldn’t get over 35 mph after going 65mph. My guess was it was working itself too hard, and protected itself from overheating. And the car was fine, once it got to level ground.

Assuming the veracity of the coolant codes, that could very well be what is going on. Could be the thermostat, a sensor, or something in the coolant system.

I also think @justin-shepherd may have a point with the transmission slipping.

One other thing it could be is a clogged catalytic converter, that could also cause a car not able to get to speed. But the codes don’t line up, so highly unlikely.

Obviously you need to test for these.

Thank you for the reply @kaizen. It was driven on level ground the entire time. I think I'll have to get another mechanic to check it out unfortunately.

This video from Car Wizard about a similar problem may provide some ideas:

Thank you @chucktobias. I'll check it out.
