chrysler 200 ignition locked

The other day I was on the road and saw a guy stopped in the middle of the road in a 2017 Chrysler 200. I ended up coming by to see if he needed a jump or some help pushing, but it turned out the car had locked up in the road and was saying that the ignition was locked. Even after trying to get the key fob close to the sensor and trying to restart it, the car wouldn't even shift to neutral and the brakes were locked. What could be the the cause of that? It definitely doesn't make sense why there isn't an easy emergency release.

It seems it is from the loss of communication between the fob and the ignition switch.

Reason: lack of quality in these cars.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. One more reason for me to never buy one😂

As a person answering car questions every day I can not tell you how many Chrysler 200s between model years 2013-2017 we had people on this forum buy that were absolute junk. BECAUSE THEY ARE. 90% of people here know this by now. This can be your evidence Scotty knows a thing or two;) Always people who don't know much about car reliability buy them and at like 80 90k miles I see them on this forum asking why the engien blew up or the car won't start. Typical Italian junk.

Keep in mind that the 200 is essentially a Fiat with a Chrysler badge.  Though Scotty is a bit hyperbolic about Chrysler, the Fiat part is all junk.  Some ideas have been good .  The 200 was NOT.

I hate that Tigershark engine they are used in the 500X, Renegade, Cherokee, Dart, and the last generation 200. At least the 9 speed auto is a ZF so that is decent. Chrysler makes junk engines since Fiat merged but they keep on switching the transmission maker, some are Aisin some are ZF etc.
