Cleaning An Engine

Topic starter

Hey uncle Scotty!

Thinking of cleaning our 23 year old Toyota Corona 1997's engine, because we will replace the engine's gasket and see if how's our 23 year old 3S-FE 2.0L engine's doing too.

What's your advice on cleaning the insides of the Engine and how would you do it?

Thank you!

If its just varnish deposits then I'd leave it, if its build up sludge then I'd try and clean it up a bit but don't leave any loose stuff behind else it may clog up lifters etc.

@jimbob
Thank you sir!

I recall seeing one of Scotty's videos on this topic and he has said generally not to do it because if you get any water in the engine or on any of the various electronics, you will have a world of trouble! If you must do it be sure to take great care covering all the connections & go easy with the pressure.

Yes, we're just planning on using kerosene or degreaser 🙂 thank you!

Please for the love of God don't use a pressure washer or garden hose or anything. Just use engine degreaser and some rags.

Hahaha! I get you! Thank you. We're planning on using degreaser and or kerosene. 🙂
