Clutch/flywheel replacement

Hey Scotty, I have a manual 2003 Volkswagen Golf TDI with 253000 miles. I love the car and love the gas mileage from the diesel, I’ve had all the routine service done and at this point the only stock thing on the car is the clutch but it’s on its last legs. Every mechanic around here is asking 1600-ish for just the clutch and around 2700 if I replace the flywheel with it, is it worth getting it replaced or should I look for something new.Thank you so much, sending love from Rhode Island, maybe I’ll get to meet you some day when you’re up here

Scotty IS in Rhode Island, at present.

The clutch replacement job should include the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing.  You don't have to replace the flywheel unless it's deeply cracked or broken in some way.  You should probably check all your clutch adjustments (master ans slave cylinder, fluid, etc.) to make sure they are correct.  This is a pretty big job since the trans has to come out.
