Car: 1991 Civic Hatchback DX, 5-speed manual transmission.
Hi Scotty,
I replaced the clutch, flywheel, rear main oil seal, throw-out bearing, input shaft bearings as it was making noise when accelerating. Everything is installed but when I tried to start the car, the engine is slowly turning and a knock. Clutch and flywheel were purchased form Autozone. Thanks for your help.
Odds are the clutch pressure plate is the wrong size and it's rubbing or you could have put the clutch plate in backwards they will go in backwards but then it won't work
Hi Scotty,
To continue with my 1991 Civic DX clutch replacement mystery, I removed everything and it looks like the clutch and the flywheel were installed, correctly. I compared the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel to the original parts which came with the car (I am the original owner), size is the same for all. I did see a tad of metal shaving on the teeth of the flywheel after removing the starter, and I mean, just a tad. The teeth of the flywheel looks good, no markings.
Here are the part numbers:
Exedy Clutch 8F12A HCC902 / Pressure Plate HCD802U. I bought the flywheel from Autozone - Duralast FW9205. I checked all parts to match the OEM before purchasing them. I did read on one of the Honda forums about this same problem - knocking sound and that person reused the original flywheel and problem solved. I do want to use a new flywheel since my car has about 280K on it.
Thanks for your help, Scotty and all other help. Cheers.
Thanks, Scotty. I will go back and take everything off and start from the beginning, making sure each step is correctly, installed. Love your videos especially all the laughing animals pictures accompanying your laughs. Plus, I totally agree with you on buying Toyotas and Hondas. I have a 1994 Land Cruiser and a 1991 Honda Civic. Thanks
