Hey Scotty!

I trust you are well in God’s good grace.
A brother from my church told me I can ask you questions about cars and trucks on here, and I had no clue! I’ve watched your videos and always enjoy your perspective, as it seems honest and deeply knowledgeable.

I was hoping to get your insight as to whether or not I should buy a 2008 Toyota Tundra (2WD) with 273K miles on it. There are a few great points to consider:

  • It’s had 1 owner and they’re all highway miles due to his work.
  • The maintenance was always done at a Toyota dealership and always before it actually needed to be done (so as to not get stuck on the highway with car trouble), so preventative.
  • The owner is also a friend of a friend, who happens to be a very credible and nice man.

Here is the offer up posting:

  • I’m the only owner 1-21-08 ! 273,500 mi. All highway driven. All maintenance done at Toyota. 07/21 new AC compressor, condenser, new evaporator, new expansion valve. 1/21 new shocks, struts, springs, new motor mount, new water pump, new thermostat, new hoses. 9/21 new exhaust canister. 5/19 new blower motor AC. The best truck I ever owned. I went & bought me the last year of the V-8 2021 4x4 best truck ever mechanically made & tough looking. So I have no need for the 08 truck anymore. No engine lights on except for tire light ( been on since 2011). I also have a used set of Ridge Grappler tires 295/55/20 lots of tread life left. $300 sold separately. If u want them.

My biggest concern is dropping all this cash on a truck that may need a new motor or tranny in a few years because of the mileage.
I’ve heard of a couple of Tundras make it to 1M miles and still keep going, but I am curious of what your thoughts are on this particular case.

Is it better to save up a bit more and get a truck with less miles?

Thanks for your feedback, Scotty!

All the best,

Scott

I would save up a little more and get a lower mileage truck.

Before you decide to buy any car, get it inspected by a mechanic. You can also take a look at Scotty's videos
