Hi Scotty!
I have a1999 Ford E150 passenger van (automatic transmission) with fewer that 30,000 miles. It's had a small transition fluid leak. On the 4th visit to my mechanic trying to diagnose the cause, they found a slight crack in the bellhousing. This means a new transmission??
Do you have any ideas on what could have caused a bellhousing to crack in a vehicle with low miles?
Thanks so much for your time!
Kind regards,

I wonder why your mechanic wasn't able to give you a diagnosis and recommendation himself.
Now you're asking people who have never laid eyes on your truck.
Here's what I know ... the inside of the bell-housing is supposed to be dry. If the leak is coming from there, then probably the input shaft seal has failed. That's a transmission-out procedure.

who knows. It could have been a bad casting... or the powertrain could have suffered an impact or high torque event.
Again, I haven't seen the crack so I can't make an accurate evaluation.
My recommendation is to take it to a reputable transmission shop and see what they say.
