Honda Civic crank no start when cold

Hi all,

It's starting to get old up here in Canada and my 2006 civic is having a cold start problem. Right now the temperature is around -5C or 23F. When I tried to start the car in the morning it would crank but not start. I tried giving it some gas to start but that did nothing. The crank speed didn't sound too slow for me but I also didn't hear the fuel pump. I could crank until the battery is dry but the car wouldn't start. Funny thing is once I connected a booster pack to the battery, then I would hear the fuel pump priming and then the car would start right up. And once the car is started it runs fine. And as long as the engine is still somewhat warm it would also restart fine.

The battery was 12.5V when I shut the car off yesterday. 12.25V when I checked again in a few hours when the car is cold. Even though 12.25V might be a bit low but I think it should still be able to engage both the starter and the fuel pump to start the car?

Thanks

A fully charged battery should be about 12.6 volts. Have your battery and alternator load tested.
