Cummins recall

What do you think the Cummins recall will do to modern diesel pickup trucks?

Do you think Ford and Chevy have similar issues allowing them to have competitive horsepower/torque ratings?

which recall?

Cummins was just ordered to pay a crazy amount of money for their engines not being in compliance with the EPA standard that they said they were.
I didn't look up the years but I think it was 2013 and up. I have a 2006 so I'm not worried about it but I was curious what Scottie thought about ford and gm diesels since they are all pretty close with output ratings. I'm guessing this is an easy way to get Cummins to stop putting their engine in pickup trucks. The "go green" people absolutely hate diesels.
I personally don't ever want a gas engine vehicle again and definitely don't want anything that runs on batteries.
I have over 700hp with 300,000 miles and my engine is totally reliable. I drive it every day and my only concern is the truck rusting off the frame haha

Stellantis haven't provided technical details about what the recall does. All they say is that they update the software.

Rumors are that it tweaks the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

Stellantis claim it does not affect operation. Techs performing the update are also reporting no change in performance.

Some owners are reporting that their trucks use more DEF after the update.

"The repairs are not expected to impact fuel economy, vehicle durability, or operation."

not just non-compliance, but actively evading or "defeating" emissions controls.

you probably wouldn't want any of the modern diesels either. From what I hear, the emissions systems are a huge complicated nightmare and expense to maintain.

who knows. Time will tell.

While diesels make more sense for trucks and towing, it is getting harder and harder to own a diesel because of all these laws impacting engineering decisions.
