CVT Transmission service

Hello Scott, I  have a 2018 nissan maximum CVT transmission , I keep up with servicing the transmission, but this time I ask the dealer to change the filter along with the service, and the service manager says that the filter is inside the transmission and there don't change it,  another  dealer said you cannot replace it,  another dealer  said it would cost $500, because they normally don't change it!  Question why does Nissan service recommend changing of the filter but the dealerships refuses to change it!

The filter cap is above the transmission pan and has three screws to remove and replace the filter.

It appears that the dealerships are  Forcing the premature failure of the  CVT  transmission  buy this practice.

What do you think ?

Drop the pan, the filter is right there.

Probably incompetence.

It's not like anyone who actually wants their car to last goes to a dealership...

Don't these CVTs tear off the splines of the diff, and didn't Nissan update their software in such a manner that the torque convertor falls apart prematurely clogging up the valve body? I'd argue that the dealer not wanting to replace the filter is far from the reasons why these fail.

As far as I remember Renualt-Nissan states that the design lifespan is around ~100k miles, and that's how much they used to last on the Renault Latitude, the car your Maxima is based on.

CVT's generally have 2 transmission filters. 1 screen filter under the pan, and a media cartridge filter by the cooler.

Maybe @r4nier can shed some light on this.
