Will a DCT be more reliable in motorcycles?

Hi Scotty,

I know you're not a fan of DCT on cars but how do you feel about DCT on Motorcycles?  I'm looking at getting a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT motorcycle but wonder how long they hold up?

Thanks,

Scott

More reliable in motorcycles? You mean more reliable than the ones Ford and the Euro manufacturers have put in cars?

I'd say more because Honda has better design engineers and quality control than those folks. Also, you're probably not going to spend a LOT of time in stop-and-go traffic on your bike, which I would think would be a major stressor on a DCT.

Will it last longer than a Honda with a lever controlled clutch. Probably not - they are more complicated with more parts to wear, get out of alignment and fail. I also wonder how well the average dealership/mechanic will be able to handle any necessary adjustments and/or clutch replacements.

Unless you really dislike shifting with a clutch- I would get a bike with the standard transmission. DCT transmissions are heavier and they are more complicated (therefore probably less reliable).
