I gotta 2000 mercury mountaineer awd with 285000+ miles on it. Was told that I can't register it till I get a ford dealership perform a recall repair on some faulty speed sensor. Made a appt with my local ford store san leandro and dropped it off today. Get home not 5inutes guy from dealership msgs me and it said that they can't service my vehicle (in my mind thats a red flag) I drive back to talk to dude and he says that "none of their mechanics were willing to work on it bc of the baked in smell" I said that came with it when I bought it. So <edited. No vulgarity please. Read the forum rules> am I supposed to do? I ask. He suggested I get it detailed before bringing it in. My response was u make it sound so easy.
Here's my question Community. Do I
So what am I supposed to do?
Maybe you should clean it up a bit. Don't you want to get rid of the smell?
My response was u make it sound so easy.
Life isn't supposed to be easy. Have you tried vacuuming & shampooing it?
That was wat I was trying to tell him. Every carpet fresh and hoover spot remover has been tried to no avail. What I'm saying is, shouldn't they weigh out the risk of letting a customer drive with a potential ticking time bomb under their hood. Or can they muster some level of professionalism to strap on a niosh filter and knock it out. I'm far from a dirt bag but gimme a break.. this is a safety issue, not a hygienic issue.
Okay so dealerships don't like doing warranty work because it doesn't have profit for them in it. But at the same time if the car really smells awful inside it I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to work on it. It's like going to the dentist without brushing beforehand and a smelly mouth. So while dealerships are crooks and all those things in this one case I think it was a fair ask.
Just get a can of Ozium at the auto parts store, set the air vent to recirculate and turn the fan on high and shut the door for 5 minutes. I agree with the dealer on this one. Who wants to work on a car when it smells like somebody just dropped the BIG CHALUPA in the back seat?
No a/c if the plot wasn't thick enough yet. There's no circulation.
Ripping out the carpet is on deck
I did not say anything about AC. You have a recirculate function on the HVAC system that either recirculates or allows fresh air into the car. That's what I'm talking about.
