I just bought a 2017 nissan pathfinder platinum last month, with 61000 miles on it. It had a check engine light on. The dealership told me some lame thing about a bad light & that they would fix it. The next day while driving it. The light came back on. I took it to autozone to have the code read and got code 0013. I called the dealership and they mailed me. A new crank position sensor which I changed. The next day. My engine might come on again. Had the code read again & This time got code 0014. So I took my VVT syllannoid off and cleaned it and checked it, and it was functioning properly. Today I took my car to the dealership. To have a checked out. The Nissan dealership in form me that my.

Timing sprocket was bad Due to sludge in the engine. My question is, would cleaning out the engine of the sludge. Change the way that my car is driving with only 65000 miles on it.

Didn't any problems show up during the pre-purchase inspection?

To be sludged up in 65K miles that vehicle must have had very poor maintenance. You'd have to pull the valve cover and and oil pan to see how bad the sludge really is. (Damaged timing sprocket is an indication that it's pretty bad.)

This video shows how bad sludge can get:
