Diesel time?

retired and want to tow a toy hauler that will weigh about 8k to 11k loaded. Switched from ford to toyota since 1988 but the new 5.7l tundra 4x4 can only tow 9.5k. my 2005 4.7l only tows 6k so i'll have to sell. It is hard to change vendors because of its reliability but I'm not sure pushing the limits of a 5.7l is good judgement.  Ford has a new gas 7.3l small block(?) and 6.2l big block but has fit and finish issues along with more transmission problems. i've never worked on diesels but is it time to trust the big three and buy one? Looked at used ones but CR reports all of them suck!? New ones hurt the wallet but have 100k drivetrain warranty. Do I trust ram or ford diesels or will I be stuck on the side of the road - pissed because I did! I was looking for a low mileage ram (and get extended warranty) but a lot have high miles, jacked up and big tires and they want big bucks! We are a AZ camping family but I'd like to see more national parks and canada's as well before I can't. What is a guy to do?!

I would recommend you get a Ram with the 6.7 Cummins Diesel or the Chevrolet with the 6.6 Duramax Diesel. Both are great engines and have proven to be reliable. There are quite a few million-mile Ram 6.7 out there.
