How do you properly dispose of old DOT 3 brake fluid? I've filled about a quart and a half worth of empty soda bottles with old fluid from my '79 Catalina. I asked local auto parts stores if they take it. None do. The municipal hazardous waste facility said to dump it in their big used oil totes and I feel like that's not where it's supposed to go, either. I believe it's alcohol based?

If you have a state or county recycling center you could double-check with them. I periodically run up to the county dump with a variety of used automotive fluids for disposal. It's been a while though and I don't recall what they do with the old brake fluid, there's very little of it compared to the gallons of other stuff.
