I have a rebuilt transmission that sat for 5 years with brand new fluid and I've been using it lately. It works fine but should I change it since it sat for so long?
Yes! 5 years thru heat, cold, rain, etc. Change it! It's re built, re build it again and put new fluid in it.

It’s not really that critical, but it’s worth replacing just to be sure.
