Does service advisor need to get your consent before anyone test drive your car?

Hi, I brought my car to the dealership in Massachusetts for 6month maintenance and a recall on a occupant classification system sensor recently. No one told me my car will need a test drive or they already did a test drive.
I found out on the day after on the Toyota APP that my car got driven harshly while the car was being serviced. So I reviewed the dash cam recordings and found out that someone other than the technician who signed on the report took my car out for a spin.
Is it a common practice or should I do anything about it? Any input is greatly appreciated.

No

Of course they test drive it. Would you prefer to pick up your car only to find out it's not repaired?

Yes, sometimes it needs to be driven that way to be sure, or to reproduce a problem.

There was no service other than tire rotation ,inspect and adjust passenger seat rail and calibrate zero point of some airbag sensor done. I really do not see the point to test drive anything on a 6month old car.

There is absolutely a point. Test driving is ESPECIALLY important for mounting wheels. They are what keeps your car on the road and not in the ditch. What he did was proper and a thorough job. Maybe you should have asked the mechanic to explain to you why he did it.
.
I always take my vehicle around the block before doing the final wheel nut tightening to spec. In fact, your owner's manual likely describes a similar procedure.

Seat rails need to be secure during heavy braking. They are what keeps you from launching out the windshield.

Thank you for the information.

I remember when my USV was taken for a ride by a tech, he didn’t ask me for permission, but he told me he’d have to take it for a ride to make sure everything was fixed correctly and that was a required part of the procedure.

When I dropped my BMW at the dealer, someone took it to do some errands. I know this because I found some newly purchased items in the trunk of my car, that they forgot to take with them. I was going to complain, but decided to keep the goodies for myself.  Hahahahhahah.

Clever guy trying to kill two birds with one stone.

Relax. As long as they didn’t misuse your vehicle, while in their possession.

Would you object to a doctor asking you to undress, during a physical examination?

Can you please elaborate?

In that sense with the doctors visit, you were their for a general cold, his or her colleague goes in your room rip your pants off without identifying their identity, explain the reason and most importantly ask for your permission, any of similar incidence brought to board of registration will be probation and up.

In that sense with the doctors visit, you bring your child for a general cold, the doctors colleague goes in your room rip your child’s pants off without identifying their identity, explain the reason and most importantly ask for your permission, while you are in the waiting room the whole time. No body in the office told you about the incidence until your child does on the next day. Any of similar incidence brought to board of registration will be probation and up.
