Dear Scotty,

I appreciate your videos. As a somewhat technical guy I use your knowledge to assess the condition of my car as well as the cars of family, relatives and friends.
I live in the Netherlands and I am the owner of a VW golf plus mk5 1.9 tdi(bls) built in 2007. This car I am driving in since 4 years and a bit.
This car enabled me to drive some 92 500 miles during my time of owning. Currently the car has driven a bit more than 171 000 miles.
Since I am a tall man 6 foot 6 inch. The seating position in this car is a wonderful fit for my body.

Now since the car ages... I wonder what is wise to do?
Keep this car for a bit longer; till what mileage it is wise to do? Or look for a better alternative (which fits my body as well as this one)?

I hope to receive an expert answer to my question by you or your expert board.

With kind regards,

Mark

The 1.9 pump duse TDI (if that’s the same engine as in the Skoda cars) is an excellent Diesel engine. With a manual transmission, they can run for a long time.

Since you’re in the Netherlands, parts should be cheap & readily available for them. They can probably run 300-400,000 miles with a manual transmission. That’s why they’re so popular in Europe.

If you’ve got a DSG transmission however, it’s not going to last much longer.
