Scotty,

I know you’re not fond of CVT’s but what about ECVT?

A CVT uses a belt/chain connected to a pair of pulleys. This is found in a handful of cars today. I'm not a fan of them because most of them are almost all the same. Toyota's K120 CVT (inside the Corolla and Corolla Cross) is different. It includes a physical gear and 9 "virtual" gears. An eCVT uses an electric motor to control the speed for the planetary gears. This is found in Toyota hybrid cars.

Inside of a modern Toyota eCVT there’s mechanical gears and 2 electric motor-generators.

New Toyota eCVT units (unlike many of their competitors) are pretty reliable, you can find many with 200k miles and more.
