Just got 1994 F350 XLT, what are some things to look for, be aware of? How long will my truck last, what can I do to make sure this thing will last forever?

Mileage? Has it got the 460 in it or diesel? Any rust? Automatic? Does it shift ok still? How’s the motor running?are the duel tanks both working still?

just passed 100k miles, 460, auto. Idles amazing, both tanks are great, no issues with switching between 4H, 4L, or 2H. Rust was just taken care of, was on passenger roof.

Occasional clunk when switching from Neutral to Drive, mostly happens in cold weather. I live in SoCal.

Ok, now we have a place to start haha. Owned a 92 250 with a Windsor in it for awhile. The 460 is what America used to be, tough, and loves to work hard. The autos in those are pretty solid as well. I will tell you that a weak spot on those are the power steering pumps especially if it still has the original. The duel tank system is garbage as well. If it is all original parts I’d be surprised if they continue to last the next couple years. Most of the time when those fail you either have to drop the tanks and replace the pump on top of the tank. Or it’s the switch itself inside the cab. You will know when you pump is going out because before you turn the key completely over to start it you should be able to hear it priming. If you can’t hear it or it sounds weak you know it’s about to happen. Other than that those are pretty much built like tanks. Fuel mi is definitely something you should not care about because the 460 doesn’t know what that means.

You're on it! I appreciate the advice. I will take a look at the tanks. i'm concerned with what you said, but I don't trust mechanics, so I do everything myself. I will def listen and see what I can do for the tanks. Cat got stolen so she is straight piped, but passed smog before cat was stolen. I got lucky, bought it for a few grand, new sound system, new tires, full tank (s) of gas. Already changed oil, many cosmetic changes, but for now, I don't plan on lifting her. I don't know much about cars, but what I do know, I know.

You made a good choice. They were really built Ford tough back then. Just remember it’s an older truck it’s like your crazy old veteran uncle Or grandpa. They aren’t as fast or as agile as they used to be and you need to check up on them more often. But they’re still tough as hell and could still kick some ass around if they had to.

I'll agree to that. My buddy got a 17' Tahoe and said he could kick my ass in a tug-of-war. I declined, saying that my truck could pull him, but I care about my truck more than to put her through that. Plus tug-of-war is just stupid.

Exactly not worth it, your buddies 17 GM product is a trash pile made by a company that should’ve gone out of business. That thing will not be rolling down the road 20+ yrs from now like your truck is. Treat it good, treat it right 👍

Also, I’d recommend to not switch over to synthetic oil. I’d stick to running conventional in it. One other thing I forgot to mention is with that age my 92 began leaking at the rear main seal. Just a few drops here and there. I don’t know if you’ll experience that or not just keep in mind it’s a old truck and if rubber hasn’t been replaced that old stuff is probably looking a little rough. Don’t run the piss out of the transmission either. Just take care of the thing and you should have no issues with that motor taking you into at least the 250k range or more. Parts are easy to find and that motor is super easy to work on.

Many thanks, I'll stick to the advice. Yeah rear diff is starting to look like seal is going. I will drive her slower, with nothing being towed or in bed, can still climb to 90mph+, but you're right, don't run the piss out of it, I need to slow it down...
