Failure of universal joint

Scotty, greetings from the UK!

I have a  front wheel drive BMW 1 series with 25,000 miles on the clock. My steering wheel clunks badly at low speeds and I have taken it to the dealer as it’s still under warranty. The mechanic has said that the universal joint has broke. I have to get it booked back in as they didn’t have the part there to replace it. My car has a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Will this cause the seals around my transmission to come loose? The dealer is replacing it under warranty so it won’t cost me anything, but what sort of things should the mechanic do properly to ensure a good job has been done? I really don’t want any transmission issues.

your steering has absolutely nothing to do with transmission

I read that the universal joint is connected to the driveshaft? And in order to replace the universal joint, they need to remove the driveshaft which would mean removing it from the transmission.

There's no way the driveshaft u-joint can cause noisy steering.
They're going to repair your steering shaft u-joint.

Ok thank you for clarifying
