I have a 1989 Econoline 350 with a 7.5l gas engine and 3 speed automatic transmission . vin 1FTJE34HXKHB89459
I fucked up the computer by mistakingly applying 12 volts to the self test input and signal ground wires when they were connected while pulling codes. The resulting symptom is that when the key is turned to run the gas pump runs continously instead of a 2 second cycle and the engine will not fire up (turns over with spark but no start) or provide codes. I have seen on a ford group thread that this is sign the computer is now fried.
I am trying to match up my computer with a refurbished Cardone or other reman or even a used oem from scrapper. On the outside of the wiring connector is labeled E9TF-12A650-AF5A / EECIV / SD20B / 56K EP (stands for eprom I believe) . BUT on the circuit board itself it is labeled E8TF-14A60B-AF / PWB-901 / EECIV / SD20
I have sourced a Cardone eec part 78-5604 that references the E9TF as well as a Cardone # 78-4473 that references the E8TF designation. A rock auto or parts geek listing indicate the former Cardone #78-5604 is good just for 1989 and 1990 years but Oreilly auto indicated the later Cardone # 78-4473 is good for 1988 - 1990
I have sourced a E8TF eec model in the scrap yard. So the burning question in my mind is whether that scraper EEC designated E8TF will work in place of my E9TF since the designation on the circuit board is actually E8TF and the oreilly auto Cardone 78-4473 lists it working for 88-90's.
From a practicle perspective would the key factor in the thing working be that the engine is a v8 cyl (as opposed to 6 or 4) and that the engine controls be the same - ie my motor controls fuel air ratio with a MAP and separate air charge sensor rather than a MAF and that the transmission be automatic 3 speed as upposed to manul.
thanks for any advice.
Great show keep up the great works
why you have one advantage there it's really old and on the really old ones you don't even need to reprogram the computer so deal with an honorable company it guarantees their stuff like AutoZone or car don't and if it doesn't work get your money back and try a different one. You could never do this on a later model vehicle but on those old ones it's not as critical and they don't need reprogramming
