Hello Scotty, long time viewer, former ASE certified mechanic, and current backyard brake job hero. I have a 2001 F-150 with a 5.4L 2 valve. It's a former farm truck that has a little over 997,400 TRUE ACTUAL miles on it. It's rare special order model between the FX4 and the 7,700 series. I have to search three different models when getting parts for it. I bought it for $900 five years ago not running. I put $400 and some blood and sweat into it and it has run like a champ ever since. Compression on all cylinders is shockingly between 179 and 182 psi. Aside from the beat up interior rusted body and rusted exhaust manifolds that I have yet to replace, everything "works" like it was brand new. This truck shows no signs of giving up anytime soon. My dilemma is, I want a new truck but I am afraid to get rid of this one, because it has been, and is still so reliable. I cannot have both, so what do you think I should do?
Rob from Ohio.
How bad is the body rust? Pictures would be great!
I’d call Ford, tell them your about to break a million miles on the truck. There was a guy with a Volvo in the 90’s, Volvo used his car for publicity and ended up goving him a brand nee vehicle. It doesn’t owe you anything that’s for sure. Keep it.
