Ford F-150 Belt-driven oil pump (2.7L and V8)

Hi Scotty, Ford is using a wet belt-driven oil pump for the 2015 2.7L and newer engines, as well as in the 2021 V8 and newer models, instead of the original design with the direct drive off the crank oil pumps. Ford claims it is designed to last a lifetime and has not provided a replacement interval. I can imagine that the belt can last 200k miles or over 10 years with all the heat inside the engine. However, I read that the replacement cost for this belt is over $5.5k because it requires tearing down the front of the engine to replace it.

I saw a YouTuber on the "Ido Cars" channel tear down a 2018 F150 2.7L engine with 96k miles and another one with 131k miles, and both engines showed cracks on the oil pump belt.

My questions are: Is there any real-world data about the oil pump belt's lifespan (time or mileage)? Also, is it possible to replace the belt by removing the oil pan only, without tearing down the engine?

I want to buy an F150, but I have concerns about the oil pump belt!

Thanks you,

Well, as it stands today, I know of no real world dat on it. I just think it's an extremely stupid idea to replace a metal chain or a metal gear with a rubber belt. They are only doing it to make them cheaper
