Hello I have a 99 Ford Ranger with 185000 miles. Apparently my current transmission just went out and I went to buy junkyard transmission Which I was in pretty good condition. I recently done everything on the transmission before I insert back in the vehicle once I started a vehicle it was working just fine until I went up the hill. I saw my oil gauge flopping rapidly. I quickly turn the vehicle a roll down the hill on neutral as I made it to the safe place I turn on the vehicle and for some reason the engine lost power and won’t produce as much power is it used too. Please help I have bought new parts and still same issues.
This doesn't sound like a transmission problem. The oil gauge reads the oil pressure in the motor, not the transmission fluid. If that's bouncing, there's something wrong with your oil system. Either you're low on oil, the sensor is bad, or the pump is going out. Did the truck shake or otherwise run oddly? Lacking power could mean the engine isn't getting enough oil. There is an outside chance you're simply out of gas, I found out the hard way last week in my '99 Ranger the oil pressure gauge oscillates up and down right before the engine dies. The gas light never came on.
Change the oil and filter and look for metal in what comes out. A compression test will tell you if your piston rings are damaged in the engine. You can also use a borescope to look inside the spark plug holes. To see if there is any damage to the cylinder bores.
