I’ve got a 2007 Ford e- 450 Econoline super duty under a 25 foot motorhome. It is equipped with the V 10 triton engine, has about 150,000 miles. Seems to be misfiring or idling rough intermittently, however there is no check engine light. Tough to diagnose without throwing a code.Any ideas or suggestions as to where to look first?
Well, first I'd ask about maintenance - things like clogged airfilters, really old plugs, fuel filters, etc. can add up so that the thing runs like crap, but in a way that is EPA warning light-friendly. The codes are about being legal, not necessarily running right. The other thing, I've often seen with RVs is bad/wet gas. RVs are stored outside, may sit for a winter, they have pipes and tanks full of water, etc.
If those are not problematic, then I think it would be wise to get one of the Snotty-recommended scan tools that goes deeper into engine function (look for tools in the upper right corner of this screen). A hundred bucks on one of those might save you a lot of a mechanic's "exploratory surgery" on your RV.
