Fried Diagnostic Plug

So I was on a snack run, and when start my car after coming out of the convenience store my Check Engine Light comes on. So I run on down to Napa for a free diagnostic, and when she comes to check my car, we open up the hood and immediately smell a very strong burning smell. We open up the diagnostic port and we see that my Diagnostic Plug is melted. It turned to a yellow eggshell color from the usual black. I'm not sure of what I should do. I'm scared to drive it, and I'm not even sure if its worth fixing.

Yea, if you don't want to fix it yourself, likely cost a significant, if not all, amount of the car's valve to have it fixed. Good news it's running. it's possible you can find a good indy that won't take all your ben's.  I'd start with service manual to see what electrical component fried it (most likely an elec part), and replace/rewire the burnt stuff.

I suppose if the car drives fine and their are no codes displayed nor flashing on your dash your good to go so far...BUT...in the event that your car needs to be diagnosed via the plug...thats gonna be an extra charge over and above whats happening.

You should investigate the cost of getting the plug at a junkyard in the event your going to need it.

In order to get the diagnostic plug replaced I have to replace the whole wiring harness according to what I have found, which costs 257 dollars new. I cannot find a place like pick and pull that has the same year car. Plus I'm not even sure what caused it to do that.
