Gas or Diesel

Topic starter

Hi everyone, I have a 2000 ford excursion with 142k miles on it with the 5.4 v8. I've been hearing people saying I should've gotten a diesel. Is my truck right now worth driving still or should I look for something else to avoid expensive repairs in the future? I've been looking at F250 diesels from the mid 2000s I don't plan on towing much but I'm considering it for the higher efficiency for normal driving and whenever I do decide to tow in the future.

Diesel: hauling and pulling

Gas: everything else.

Much appreciated

Hy there!

If you are new to diesel engines, I suggest to read that article (Click here).

Another question: why do you want to get rid of current vehicle? Problems or just because others suggest you a diesel.

If it runs great, why not to keep it? Diesels are more expensive to maintain.

Well, final decision is yours.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Re-reading makes me realize that I sounded like an idiot so I'll rephrase what I was really trying to ask. Would a diesel pickup be a good next truck after I get rid of my excursion for whatever reason? I wouldn't tow much but I like the idea of having the capability for when I do. Thanks

It also depends where you live when it comes to maintenance. A diesel truck can be OK but if nobody knows how to repair it, it is useless. I suggest you research mechanics in your area if they know diesel stuff.
