Heater Problem!

Hey Scotty! My heater on my 2002 Camry 2.4L is wack. It blows hot on the 2 driver side vents but cold on the 2 passenger side vents. Could it be the heater core?

You have been posting the same questions over and over and over, on multiple occasions. Please stop. Just ask once, and you can update it with any new information you get. It's clearly spelled out in forum rules. You should probably go read them all now so you don't get banned. Thanks.

you need to clean it off and monitor it closely (like before every trip). Find out if it's coming out of the cap, or a crack in the radiator, etc.

The seams in these plastic radiators are held together with a pinch type arrangement.  If it's the cap leaking, you're lucky, but it looks like the top seam has opened up and the radiator needs replacing.

the cap is bad

The cabin air filter.

I had the cabin air filter replaced a few months ago, but unfortunately the problem still persists.

No, mostly likely a blend door problem.

Oh, that is nasty. What's the context for this? Did you recently drain and fill the radiator from the coolant. Coolant will spill out if there's an overfill, but it doesn't usually look like that.

If I had to take an educated guess, I'd say that the radiator cap, which is supposed to keep the pressure constant in the radiator, is going bad. The coolant gets released too rapidly, and what you see is the result.

Take a look at the cap (when the car is cold). If the O-Ring is broken, stiff, hard, degraded, buy a new OEM cap. (A new OEM cap is NOT expensive).

Other possibilities: The radiator is not holding the right pressure, but it's not the cap, but the radiator itself is degrading.

You can test the radiator pressure (but only do this when the car is cold). Scotty has a video on that:

If the radiator is ten years old or more, it may be going bad. The pressure tester will measure its current state.

Has the temperature gauge in your vehicle been rising? If so, that too, may well be a sign that the radiator is the source of the problem.

And when is the last time that the radiator has been either drained and filled or flushed?

I'm with @Doc. Replace the radiator.

I have a question for you: Do you get uniform cold AC through all the vents?

Surprisingly yes, cold AC blows through all the vents evenly

That's interesting.

Nope.  Your radiator and heater core are obviously toast and need to be replaced.

Hey Scotty! Any reason there can be coolant leaking out of my reservoir on my 2004 Camry? It's got 210,000 miles on it.

Joe is right.  The defective radiator cap is allowing too much hot and expanding coolant back into the recovery tank.  Make sure you burped the cooling system properly.

Hey Scotty! This has been happening for many months this past year, but my 2002 Camry 2.4L keeps leaking bits of dried up coolant from the top of the radiator, as you can see in the picture. Should my radiator be replaced or something else? Thanks

Hey Scotty! On my 2002 Camry 2.4L I have a problem with my climate control when I turn it to heat. The AC is good when I twist it to the blue. The problem is when I turn it to the red for the heater. As you can see from the pic below, I have a total of 4 vents. With the heat turned on max, the driver side is the hottest, with the passenger side blowing cold air, and the 2 middle vents blowing a little warm. Since it is blowing hot air in general, the heater core is working correctly, I checked both blend door actuators on the driver footwell and the passenger footwell and they are both working good. What would be the next thing to check?

Hey Scotty! I've recently had problems with my 2002 Camry 2.4L, the heater blows heat unevenly through the vents. I checked the blend doors and chin filter and all seems good, except for the heater core in the dash, and my radiator in the front, as you can see in the pictures. Is there any cheap solutions to fix the leaks on both of them, or do I just have to pay the price to replace both? Thanks
