Hi Scotty,
My dad has a 2014 Honda Civic and last week, his car broke down on the side of road when he pressed on the gas the car was not moving. The mechanic checked it out and found out that the metal part of the transmission dipstick was gone... Likely went into the transmission box and destroyed the transmission system. Honda said that my dad's car is now out of warranty so that can't do anything. He just finished financing his 7 year term and now finally owns the vehicle and it's parking on the road leaking transmission fluid... The mechanic said that to get the car back on the road, it will need a transmission overhaul. The car was regularly maintained at the dealership. I want to ask you if this broken dipstick situation is a manufacturer defect or not, because fixing transmission costs a lot of money.
Thank you and love from Vancouver, BC.
It wasn't much of a defect. Is this a CVT, automatic or manual?
It's a CVT transmission
I find that story very hard to believe. Try a different mechanic.
I know, we had three mechanics looking into it and they all scratched their heads and said that they've never seen anything like this. Hence the recommendation of writing a letter to Honda to bring up the manufacture defect of the dipstick.
Even if the dipstick broke, it would just lie in the transmission pan , or at worst get trapped in the filter. Bizarre.
