Hi Scotty, Tough decisions. I have between $18,000 to $22,000 to spend. Looking at a 2013 Lexus IS 250 4dr, V6, 2.5L, sports sedan auto RWD, with 71,000 miles, or a 2017 Mazda cx5, I4, 2.5L, Grand Select or Grand Touring, FWD (no turbo or hybrid) with 30,000 miles. Is it better generally to go with older lexus or newer mazda? Also looked at 2017 Mazda 6. These are from dealers.I don't know where all the private party sellers went, maybe they like to trade in. Thank you so much. Theresa
The newer cx-5s are nice and reliable but not as much as the Lexus I would test drive them odds are you will find one more towards your taste than the other. When it comes to pure reliability the Lexus would win. But it also depends on mechanical condition that is why a mechanic needs to do a pre-purchase insepction on it.
Yes, always have a mechanic check it out. I was looking at a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and asked dealer if I could take to my mechanic and he said no because mechanics are always looking for things wrong to make money. 😳 Dumb. I walked away - red flags all over. I changed my mind on Hyundai anyways.
I'm glad to see you realized that was a bad buy BEFORE you bought it.
Also Scotty answered a similar question in todays video about a RX vs Highlander vs newer Mazda
The newer Mazdas have batter quality than before. Also, the repair cost should be less since at least they are not as luxury as Lexus.
Thank you. That's what I'm thinking as well.
Me personally, although I am a huge Honda and Toyota fan, the CX5 is a nice car.
Thank you.
I've heard Lexus Is more expensive to fix due to cost of parts. Any truth to that?
If it breaks, yes.
