Hi

i have a 2005 Toyota corolla with 176,000 kilometres. When I start the car it cranks more before starting regardless if it’s a cold or hot engine. What could be the issue ?

The battery terminals are clean. I checked the engine oil level and its good.

Please help

It's an 18-year old car with substantial mileage. When is the last time your spark plugs were changed? How old are your air and fuel filters? Is your fuel pressure up to specification (possible weak fuel pump)? Is the pressure regulator in the fuel injection system working properly? (It's supposed to hold some residual pressure with the engine off. If it doesn't you need to crank long enough for the pump to pressurize the system.) What do your fuel trims look like? (Possible fuel injector issue.)

That's all very well and good but it of course has nothing to do with a hard starting condition.

I got it checked for codes. There are no codes.

I changed the air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor 5000 km ago.

My short fuel trim is 0%
My long fuel trim is 7%

The spark plugs and fuel filter have not been changed

that's fuel related. spray starting fluid in it and see if it starts right away.

Here's an example of the kind of diagnosis that may be required to find the cause of a long cranking problem:

Get it scanned for codes.

Spark plugs and fuel filter are certainly overdue if original. Long term fuel trim suggests a possible vacuum leak.  Did you check that your fuel pressure regulator is holding residual pressure in the fuel rail when the engine is off?

See the video I linked to previously for further diagnostic procedures.
