Hey Scotty, I have a 2007 Mahindra Bolero, its a popular asian car manufacturer.
With a mileage of 1,30,000 miles on it. Direct injection turbo diesel. Regularly serviced.
After, I drive on a highway or city for longer duration, I open the hood and let it cool down. I also open the oil filler cap so that the heat leaves the engine quickly. And put it back after a while.
So please tell me, does removing the oil filler cap when the engine is hot is a good idea or are they further any complications.
Should not be a problem but it seems unnecessary. Is that a Laidong engine? If it is they are bullet proof. Shame we can't get then in the states.
the engine was built to get hot. Cooling like this is a waste of time.
Besides, it would cool down faster using the radiator if you kept it running.
I wouldn't leave it off all of the time. I would be concerned about contaminating the oil with dust. There are oil fill caps made for hot rods that have breathers. They aren't very expensive. They have a small paper filter on top.
