Honda 2015 CR-V OBDII Code P0717 fixed for good?

Hello Scotty,

First of all, great channel, great info, great humor 😉  I started watching your channel about 2 months ago.

I have a Honda 2015 CR-V, EX-L, CVT auto transmission, with the 2.4L I4 Earth dreams engine.  In Feb 2022, with the mileage at ~47500, its "check engine" light came on, and the gear shift indicator starting flashing its "D" gear position light.  It consequently went into "safe" mode, in which power is greatly reduced and shifting is limited to a lower gear range.  It was difficult to maintain speed over 30 mph.  I can only imagine what would happen if this error occurred at freeway speed.

After purchasing a scanner, it read the P0717 code as the cause for failure.  Apparently, the ECM could not get a consistent reading from a transmission speed sensor.  I could clear the code, and for a while, simply restarting the car could get the transmission to work again.  Over time, the engine light tripped often enough for me to do more research in March.

After much research into which sensors are on the CR-V, I replaced one sensor (Intermotor part SC657) and it seemed to clear the problem for most of the summer.  However, I had become somewhat sensitive to the engine revving behavior, and still noticed some over-revving from time to time.  Finally, in late summer, around ~51,000 miles, the same OBDII code began triggering again (P0717) consistently.

I changed the another sensor (Intermotor part SC655), and so far, it has been running much smoother.  The OBDII code has not triggered for about 3500 miles (current mileage is 54,500).

You've said repeatedly that this generation of Honda CR-V was using Honda's first attempt at CVTs.  Do I have a long-term fix, or should I expect additional gotchas down the road?

Thanks

Sad, but sure I would probably expect future glitches on that particular model
