Scotty
I have a 2016 Honda CR-V SE, FWD, CVT transmission with 59,000 miles. My front suspension driver side started squeaking a couple of months ago. It mainly does it on rougher roads. I can also recreate the squeak by pushing down on the front of the car. I am going to replace both the driver and passenger front struts and coil assemblies. I want to replace the assembly because I don't want to mess with disassembly/assembly of the coil.
I wanted to replace the strut assembly with KYB but my problem is that they are currently unavailable for my vehicle. There seems to be a worldwide shortage on KYB strut/coil assemblies for CR-Vs. I also looked into getting Monroe, but these are also currently out of stock for the CR-V. My question is, is there another brand that you would recommend or should I wait and get the KYB assemblies. If I wait, it could be anywhere from 2-4 months before I can get them. I have also looked into TRQ and Gabriel struts because these seem to be available now for the CR-V. Are TRQ and Gabriel good struts. I want something that is good quality, will provide a good ride and last a long time.
As always, thanks for the help and advice.
Either Bilstein shocks or the OEM.
Forget the Monroe completely.
Thanks for the suggestions, but OEM is out of the question since I can't buy the strut/coil assembly directly from Honda. They only sell the individual parts. Also, I searched Bilstein but they don't make a strut/coil assembly for the Honda CR-V. I do not want to deal with having to take the strut/coil assembly apart then put it back together. I only want to take the old assembly out and put the new one in. Any other suggestions?
If this is the case, you don't have many options. Either wait to get the part you want or find a mechanic to replace the struts.
If I wait, it could be anywhere from 2-4 months before I can get them.
The KYB parts are available on rockauto -

Find an honest mechanic to do the work and reuse the springs.
But, before you go out and buy new shocks, verify that it’s not just the rubber strut mounts which have gone bad. Maybe try the AT-205 trick which Scotty uses, to isolate suspension squeaks.
All the best!
