Hello Scotty,
What would you recommend between a 2014 Honda CRV 2WD and 2014 Honda CRV AWD?
do you need AWD? The fact that you're even asking tells me you probably don't
Not yet sure what I need, I am shopping around for a Honda CRV.
I just want to know which is better. Fuel wise, handling, repair and maintenance.
Fuel wise: AWD introduces more moving parts, more friction+inertia+weight and more fuel consumption
Handling: normal roads: no difference. Slippery roads: AWD
maintenance: Well the AWD had more parts right. You have to drive 4 wheels instead of 2. More parts to maintain, more parts to fail. So obviously they will be more costly to maintain.

great resource for looking this up.

Thank you very much. I will settle for the 2WD.
Honda is not known for their AWD systems including longevity of them, so unless you absolutely need AWD for your situation I would stick to the regular FWD; this will also result in lower repair costs as it ages as AWD is more complex than FWD (so more things to go wrong).
Scotty made a video on SUVs and talked about how the AWD systems in the CR-V/RDX had problems and the transmissions are less reliable. I'd stick to FWD+winter tires.
The Honda AWD system requires regular Rear Differential fluid changes for proper operation.
Scotty did a video on this service, but I cannot find the link.
From the drivers point of view, every so often (probably years) you will hear a groaning noise originating from the rear differential when doing sharp turns. This is an indication that the clutches in the rear differential are not operating properly and a fluid change is required. Honda makes a special fluid for this service.
If you do these fluid changes when required the Honda AWD system usually runs a long time.
