honda vs toyota
Toyota is a lot more reliable than Honda
Both have been declining like most other car brands, but just like Scotty says "Honda slipped a bit more"
In my personal opinion, Mazda will reach Honda quality in a few years at this rate.
Corolla vs Civic, Corolla is more reliable (engine)
Camry vs Accord (because of the engine and transmission)
Avalon vs ______ (Honda can't make a large car, win to Toyota)
Sienna vs Odyssey (c'mon now Toyota)
Sequoia vs Passport (Toyota more reliable)
etc etc. Honda is not as conservative as Toyota
This is considering longevity of course
Toyota, hands down.
Honda also makes great cars, but Toyota is superior in fit and finish and build quality.
Both still have great resale values, but Toyota also has better resale value than Honda.
Honda has a smaller selection of vehicles, toyota makes every type of vehicle from the little yaris to the huge toyota land cruiser. Toyota has been making pickups since 1980 and honda has made it's first truck in 2006. Toyota makes the land cruiser, while honda has nothing even close that can compete with it off road. Honda has 3 suv's, 4 sedans, 2 hatchbacks, and one pickup truck. Toyota has 8 suvs, 2 pickup trucks, and 6 sedans.
Honda is the best engine builder in the world with a failure rate of 1 in 344. Toyota comes in second with a failure rate of 1 in 171. Where Honda went wrong was once they perfected their motors they ignored bulletproofing their automatic transmissions. Honda never really got into the 4x4 off road game either like Toyota. Toyota overall build quality is the better between the two in my opinion. But you can’t ignore the numbers when it comes to who builds the better motor.
Honda is David. Toyota is Goliath. Not the they are really enemies, or fight each other. But just in sheer size.
Toyota is 2 times the size of Honda. It's been that way since forever.
Honda had an uphill battle in Japan, prevented from manufacturing cars early in its existence. Toyota got a ton of preferential treatment from the government of Japan back in the day.
Toyota has a strict hierarchy and matrixed environment. They seem to be the rule maker and rule follower.
Honda tries to be as flat as possible. Heck, everyone wears an all white jumpsuit to work, even the executives. This is to symbolize and help facilitate conversation and insight. Judging from its founder, Honda seems to be more the rule breaker.
But despite their differences, the thing that is amazing about BOTH Toyota and Honda is their pursuit of high quality products rather than pursuit of sheer profits. Granted they aren't perfect. And their cars aren't perfect. But their obsessions with getting things right is why I much prefer getting cars from these two companies.

1 bald guy
Both are great companies! I personally prefer Honda/Acura smaller cars to Toyota/Lexus smaller cars. But, I think Toyota/Lexus bigger cars are better than Honda/Acura bigger cars. So, I’d pick a Civic over a Corolla any day and similarly a Highlander over a Pilot.
Meh. Let's be real here -they both still focus on making a handy profit. Even if the MSRP of the american equivalent is right around the same as the Japanese, I'll get the American 6-8K off MSRP, whereas when you're buying a toyota, they want you to pay full price - and if you don't want to, they tell you to get out of the way (There's 8 people in line behind you waiting to buy it)
When comparing them against each other instead of against American brands, I liked Honda back in the day of the Civics and Del Sol. But when I laid my eyes on the rear of the 2011 Civic next to a 2011 Scion TC I was a Toyota convert.
They both make great vehicles. But the fact remains they are great vehicles I can't afford.
Toyota - The best reliability you will ever get.
Honda - A tiny bit less reliable, but a ton more fun.
If you maintain your honda properly, you won't see the difference. The hondas handle better, they are FUN to drive, especially if you compare 2000-ish civic vs corolla. Heard the newer corollas handle a bit better.
If you like sporty handling, go honda.
If you don't care, go toyota.
Toyota for sure. Honda is much more fun but Toyota will last much longer.
