Scotty, I have a 2020 Honda Pilot 3.5L V6 and 9 speed tranny. At about 6500 miles, I noticed not a burning oil smell, but hot oil smell coming from the vents. Mostly noticed after the vehicle has ran for a while and come to a stop, say running into a store and coming back out and starting the vehicle. Engine doesn’t appear to be burning oil or anything and no apparent leaks after looking all over. Got any ideas?
Thanks
One potential reason that you see no leak is because the oil is burnt on contact. So, the fact that you see no leaks is not determinative.
Oil is dripping out of somewhere and then vaporizing. Hot oil is a potential life-threatening condition. (Think of what happens if it hits the exhaust).
Go to carcomplaints.com and look at the 2020 Pilot TSB, and the actual complaints.
And, I'd take it in to the servicing dealer, RIGHT AWAY. And don't let them say "They all do that," or "It's normal."
Good luck.
Thanks. Due for an oil change since the minder popped up. Will definitely mention it.
Hi @shedsnomotearz Is the smell coming out of the Air Conditioning vents?
Yes, but only briefly. Get moving and it clears up. If circulate is on, no smell. Also park in the garage, and let it sit, makes the garage smell.
I agree with @geriscan you should take it in to get serviced right away. Monitor your oil level and keep a quart of oil with you in your trunk. You might have a leak near the the air intake vent. This is not normal and any dealer tech should be able to identify and address the problem. Best of luck!
It's probably coming from the PCV system.
