How good is the Nissan Sentra?

I just bought a 07 Sentra, with 149k miles. With a dent on driver rear door. For $850

Then I bought a whole parts car, a 2012 Sentra with good engine and trans for $350

In y’all’s opinion how good are these cars? I heard the cvt trans don’t last long but I have a extra one with 88k miles.

is this car better than a 07 Auto Ford Focus, which is the car I sold to get this one

Scotty talks about Nissan Sentras at about 3:07 in this video from last night:

Nissan CVT's are not known for longevity but if you changed the transmission fluid very frequently (like every 20-30k miles) and drive conservatively maybe it can last for a while.

Are you sure the parts are compatible, even though they’re from the same generation of this model?

Did some research found the 07 trans on orileys, then added my 2012 as the vehicle and says doesn’t fit

Couldn’t I just switch over engine, trans and computers and be good?

Have you priced it out? Including programming
Did you research mounting?

I'm surprised you can get anything these days that runs and drives for under $1,000

they're OK nothing special. Economy car so nothing will last very long.

I mean i have a 2012 sentra, parts car with a good engine and trans. At 80k miles

It should be good a long time with a whole extra engine and trans ya?

Like a few years?

At an overall price of $1200 you can't beat that price, so drive it until it falls apart. But don't count on it lasting for long. In the meantime save for a better more reliable car.

Sounds like a good deal to me, assuming you are willing to put in the effort. Not too many people will do the parts car route, but for those that know what they are doing, or willing to learn, at that price, that is pretty cool.

Obviously, the CVT is the weakest point. But you have a parts car. So that should be fun. Keep us updated on progress.

Supposedly, I heard one of the failure points of the CVT solenoid that gets scarred by all the debris in the transmission fluid. If you keep that fluid fresh, you can potentially prolong the life of the CVT.

I think you got good deal. But I don't think they will last super long being Nissan products.

No. That car is a Renualt Mégane II, with the Jatco CVT and probably even the 2.0 Renault M4R engine.

The Mégane II is known to be one of the least reliable cars out there, second only to the Mégane Classic.

As you can see by the prices you paid, they're worthless due to CVTs exploding and costing a fortune to maintain.

Although you bought it for $850, It may have some life left in it - it can be an inserting case study on how Nissan differed from Renault in the early 2000s (perhaps Mexican quality could have been better than Spanish)

07 Ford Focus

What kind?

If it was the C307 make on the Ford-Volvo C1 / P1 platform then it was a HUGE mistake!

Those were solid cars.

If it was an MK1 or a North American spec Focus, then ya haven't changed anything both are kinda crappy.

Most people don't have a whole extra transmission and engine just lying around. They're not mechanically inclined, and you would need a whole extra parts car, just lying around. They also tend to live in apartments, and you can't have a non-running car in the driveway of most apartments. That's also a VERY big job, only an expert can do that. It requires a quality engine lift, and transmission lift, and not the kind you can get at Harbor Freight.

Jk no they aren’t.

But I’m trying to make the best of it.

I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra 2.0 with 156k miles. Auto trans doesn’t seem to slip or anything weird.

What are the beginning signs of trans going out with these cvts?

Also I have a parts car a 2012 Sentra 2.0. Orileys website showed the trans for the 2007 is different from the 2012.

But couldn’t I just swap the engine and trans, computer tcm etc and be fine? I have a good engine and trans in the 2012.

In process of fixing oil leak then probably going to sell it. Get a Toyota or Honda.
