I park on a very slight decline. After I put it in Park my truck rolls forward about an inch before the transmission catches it. I remember someone saying always always engage the e-break. That way you don’t wear down the transmission.
My question is should I engage my emergency break when I park?
Yes, you want to HOLD DOWN the brake pedal while putting the car in park and engaging the e-brake, then you can release the brake pedal knowing your car won't move. Then when you want to leave, you hold the break pedal again while releasing the e-brake and shifting into drive.
You want to avoid having the parking pawl "catch" the car when you put it in park on an incline. It can wear it out.
It's not really an emergency brake, it'a a parking brake. Since I have a manual trans vehicle, I leave it in gear and use the parking brake every time I park.
I always set the parking brake everytime I park. The only time I ever park without setting the parking brake is if the car is going to be sitting for an extended period of time, because then the parking brake can actually get stuck on. Otherwise I always use it. After all it is there for a reason.
Yes, it is a good practice. I do it all the time. For one, it does reduce some pressure on the clutch, transmission, parking pawl, CV joints, etc. so there is less wear on those items which makes them last longer. Also for cars with the mechanical cables/levels still, it keeps them moving so they don’t potentially oxidize and seize in place.
lol. wear on the cv joint
Do it all the time. Make it a habbit to call it a parking brake to use when you are parking rather than an emergency brake.
old question

it's a good backup when you're on an incline. Image somebody bumps your vehicle and snaps off the transmission parking pawl. Now you'll find your vehicle at the bottom of the hill in someone's living room. Or worse.
As an additional precaution , you should turn your wheels.
I'm surprised you don't remember this from your driving test.
I set it every single time I park. Just habit.

Yeeeaaahh.... That’s... Ummm... That’s impossible to happen in my situation.
why is that?
I don’t live on a hill? 🤷♂️
then you don't need to worry about it. That's why I said "on an incline". I don't use the parking brake when on level ground.
I set my e-brake every time I park. Period. On a flat surface, incline, whatever. I have OCD about that stuff and I set it and forget it.
