Hello everyone, hope everyone had a good new year’s!
i have a 2004 kia spectra ex that im working on and im going to replace the oil pump on it. Ive tried to find videos on how to prime the new oil pump but have not had any luck. The engine isnt being rebuilt or replaced im just putting a new oil pump on it. Any advice on how to easily prime the new one would be very much appreciated!
You should be fine. Oil pumps are very sturdy devices. They don't need priming in the same sense that for example water pumps need. They don't need to be full of oil in order to pick up more oil. There's no siphon effect.
If you want to be safe, then there is something engine builders use called assembly lube. It's a thick grease that lubricates engine parts until the oil can be pumped through.
It's a Toyota you don't need to prime anything just fill it with oil if you're really worried disconnect the ignition system so it doesn't fire and just crank and it will pump it up fine
Its actually a kia spectra ex 2004, i don’t know if that makes any difference. I just didn’t know if i dont prime it with oil first if that will cause any damage
